Why are Hindu Saints buried and not cremated ?

In Hindu traditions it’s customary to cremate the body of a deceased person. The body of the Realised Saint is, however, buried...Why ?

A lot of people visiting the samadhi's of the Revered saints ask this question? Let us understand the reason for this..

This practice aligns with the belief that a Realised Saint's physical form has been completely cleansed through the practice of yoga. The inner heat, known as tapas, produced through a dedicated and perfected routine of yoga has removed any underlying karmic imprints, or as they are called "Samskaras" , thus resulting in a pure body.

When a regular person passes away, their soul departs from their body and, based on its karma, is reborn into another form. The karma is stored in the Prana of a person and by means of Prana, that the karmic impressions of a person’s past actions are carried forward to bear fruit in future lives.

However, in the instance of enlightened Saints who have achieved Realisation, the energy or life force (prana) does not transition to other realms; it remains within the body as there are no karmic impressions left.

The merit of a person is stored in the Prana, and the Prana of a realized sage remains in the crown of the head ( At a point called Brahmarandhra) ,where they last concentrated it just prior to their departure from the body. Because their merit thus remains in their body, stored in their prana, the body is revered as a centre of sacred power which gives out the radiant presence of pure Consciousness.

This Presence of Pure consciousness of the realised Saint is the centre of power, fulfilling the wishes of the people visiting the Samadhi of the realised Saint. After all, the tapasya of these great beings after realization of Brahman is not for their personal use, because they have nothing left to attain. It is for the benefit of others. This power remains in their samadhi shrines.

A few examples of the Samadhis of the realised saints include Shirdi Sai Baba Samadhi at Shirdi, Bhagwan Nityananda Samadhi at Ganeshpuri, Bhagwan Sri Satya Sai Baba Samadhi at Puttaparthi, and Sri Prabuddhananda Saraswati Ji's Samadhi at Maddur, Karnataka.
